Measures to Reduce Noise in Mid-frequency Spot Welding Machines

When operating mid-frequency spot welding machines, excessive noise may be encountered, mainly due to mechanical and electrical reasons. Mid-frequency spot welding machines belong to typical systems that combine strong and weak electricity. During the welding process, the powerful welding current causes serious impact on the power grid. In workplaces with concentrated equipment such as welding workshops, this impact is even more pronounced. Other industrial equipment can also cause grid shocks and electromagnetic interference, exacerbating the noise interference experienced by the welding power supply.

Check whether the power supply leads are too thin or too long, causing excessive line voltage drop. Check if the network voltage is too low to perform tasks properly. Check if the main transformer has a short circuit, causing excessive current. The load capacity of the machine may decrease over time, especially if the motor has been used for long periods or if the motor quality is poor. In these cases, the motor noise may also be louder than usual.

Additionally, several precautions should be taken when using spot welding machines to stop welding:

Adjust the position of the electrode rod before welding to ensure that the electrode presses against the workpiece evenly and the electrode arms remain parallel to each other.

The selection of the current adjustment switch level can be based on the thickness and material of the workpiece.

After powering on, the power indicator light should illuminate. The electrode pressure can be adjusted by tightening the spring pressure nut to change its compression level.

Clamping silicon steel sheets, drying the varnish impregnant, and securely fixing the silicon steel sheets are methods to reduce noise. The noise is caused by the mutual friction and vibration of the loosened silicon steel sheets due to the electromagnetic field. Since the frequency is 50 Hz, it produces an alternating humming sound.

Most welding power supplies are controlled by thyristor phase-shifting trigger or various modulation circuit-controlled inverter power supplies. The high-order harmonics and peak voltages generated when the power electronic devices in the main circuit are reversed or switched cause significant electromagnetic interference, leading to distortion and pollution of the grid voltage waveform, thereby seriously affecting the power supply itself.
