What spot welding machine is used for welding high-strength plates?

Welding high-strength plates requires special consideration due to their increasing use in the automotive industry. However, they also pose welding challenges. High-strength plates, known for their exceptionally high tensile strength, often have aluminum-silicon coatings on their surfaces. Additionally, the nuts and bolts used in welding are typically made of low-carbon steel or galvanized steel with a much lower yield strength than the high-strength plates. This significant difference in yield strength makes it difficult to generate a weld nugget during welding, especially considering the slag generated during coating fusion, making conventional welding methods impractical.

In Europe, pioneering companies like Benteler were among the first to adopt high-strength plates. They initially experimented with using capacitor discharge (CD) spot welding machines to weld nuts and bolts. The excellent discharge waveform (sharp peak) and extremely short discharge time (15ms) of the energy storage spot welding machine allowed for excellent fusion results even under harsh welding conditions. Post-weld testing showed that the push and torque achieved ideal results. With the application of high-power energy storage spot welding machines and the promotion of metal film capacitors, the welding of high-strength plates has made significant progress. This advancement has eliminated the outdated process of post-spot welding arc welding, ensuring higher quality, more rational process flow, and significantly improved production efficiency in the welding of high-strength plates.
